What Is A Charcuterie Board?
Charcuterie is a French term for cooking devoted to prepared meat, such as bacon, ham, and sausage. Charcuterie boards, though consist of much more, like cheese and veggies, and have recently become a staple at parties in place of traditional appetizers.
One of my favorite jokes about charcuterie boards are that they are just lunchables with a fancy French name, and cost twenty times as much. I mean, there's some truth to that. Meat, cheese, crackers.. not far off!
But are charcuterie boards really only popular because there is a whole generation that was raised on lunchables and wants to feel cool while eating them? I don't think so. Charcuterie boards offer the chance to turn food into art. The chance to contribute to a party with more than just a store-bought veggie tray. It's a wonderful, cultural food experience that I think everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy.
